Ranked choice voting: easy as 1-2-3This year, voters of St. Paul (City Council by Ward) and St. Louis Park (City Council At Large and Mayor) will use Ranked Choice Voting to elect their municipal representation. By allowing voters to rank their preferences in order instead of choosing just one, RCV gives voters the opportunity to make their voices truly heard. In 2019, St. Paul and St. Louis Park will have the opportunity to show the state – and the country – how easy and effective it is to vote using Ranked Choice Voting.
Election day will take place on November 5th, 2019. An RCV race eliminates the need to vote twice in a primary and again in a general election. Voters will only need to vote for their city council candidate once in November when turnout is greatest and most diverse. Filling out your ballot using Ranked Choice Voting is super easy: Simply indicate your first choice candidate in the first column, your second choice in the second column, and so on. Know that the more candidates you rank, the more power your ballot – and your voice – will have. FairVote Minnesota is excited to be working with voters, candidates and campaign organizers, and members of the media to educate voters and ensure that elections run smoothly and successfully. |

why rcv?“In a time when so many forces seem determined to restrict participatory democracy, Ranked Choice Voting offers a simple, sensible and proven way to expand it. I’m proud to stand on the front lines of voting reform in Minnesota, and excited to show the rest of the country the way to a healthier and ultimately more inclusive politics.” – Rep. Ilhan Omar
